Primary Causes Of Constipation

There are many primary causes of constipation out there. So, treatment sometimes depends on the cause. Also, the causes vary based on things like age, gender and other factors.

Young Kids

In young kids constipation can be caused by switching to solid foods or switching to cow's milk. For kids who are just reaching school age, stress and changes in diet or eating times can also play a role. So can impaction due to forcibly holding in bowel movements, which can happen if kids have pain when they go or are simply too busy and don't want to go.

Adults

In adults constipation is often caused by poor eating habits. It can also be caused by some medical conditions or medications. However, most of what causes constipation in adults is either attributed to fatty and unhealthy foods or general stress. Most times it is a combination of both.

Women

Women tend to have a few more problems with constipation than men. One constipation cause in women is pregnancy. As the baby grows, certain areas can get blocked off or plugged up. After all, the uterus puts a lot of pressure on the stomach, bowels and bladder.

Another cause of constipation in women is hormonal changes of any sort. That can be caused by the onset of puberty, pregnancy, childbirth or menopause. It makes sense, since the body has to undergo so many changes at those times.

Constipation In The Elderly

The elderly can also experience constipation. A lot of that comes from changes in diet or routine. However, medications can also contribute to it. So can certain illnesses or loss of muscle control.

Other Causes Of Constipation

Of course, there are also many other constipation causes. Dehydration is one main problem that can strike all ages. After all, many people prefer sugary, carbonated and caffeinated drinks over plain water. Yet, the body needs plenty of water in order to function at its best.

Another problem that can lead to constipation is a sedentary lifestyle. People with office jobs and retirees are especially prone to tiredness, weight gain, eating junk food and basically just sitting around all day. So, if you think that your constipation could be a result of that, you may simply need to get up and move more.

Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC)

Finally, it's important to understand that you may have chronic idiopathic constipation. The word "idiopathic" means "unknown origin". So, it is helpful to understand the causes of constipation. However, you might not necessarily find the cause of your constipation, specifically. Nevertheless, your doctor should still be able to help you treat it. It's just a matter of taking the right action, which could involve the use of medications, diet changes or exercise routines to treat the problem and get you and your intestines back on track.

There are two ebooks that I'd like to point out to you for further information. The first one is the Constipation Help ebook which has 38 natural remedies for constipation along with other information about constipation.
